Dead Flying Bug

A prop squashed insect made for the Frank Darabont 2007 horror film The Mist. This bug is made of both resin and foam rubber; the legs are made of resin and the tail, which has a solid internal post is made of rubber. The bug has been ‘squashed’, its back is caved in with its innards spilling out, also included are the two clear vacuformed plastic wings lined with a raised skeleton and painted detail, there are metal prongs where the wings are attached to the body of the insect. The flying bugs can be seen when the town’s people are sheltered in the supermarket and night comes, these insects are attracted to the light, they get inside the building and are shot at, set fire to and stamped on. This bug would have been laying squashed on the ground or against a wall during filming. The body measures 43cm x 38cm (17” x 15”), with a 36" wingspan. Frank Darabont was responsible for films such as Shawshank Redemption and Green Mile, this film has been classed as another of his instant classics.
