Mist, The

Alternate Dimension Squashed Insect

Stock #31513

An Alternate Dimension Squashed Insect from Frank Darabont's 2007 film adaptation of the Stephen King horror novel, The Mist. In the film, a group of strangers find themselves trapped in a small grocery store as a mysterious mist falls upon their small town, bringing with it an array of other-worldly and deadly monsters.

This monstrous insect comes from the film's action packed 'scene 35' in which a number of mutant insects and giant flying monsters break through the grocery store windows and attack the survivors hiding inside. This particular insect was one of several created by the art department for the moment in which Amanda (Laurie Holden) stomps an insect to death. This creature can be identified in the special feature, "Taming the Beast: the Making of Scene 35." During the featurette, film artisans can be seen dressing the creature on the floor.

Made from a variety of materials, this insect has a resin body with foam latex skin and tail. Protruding out of the stomach are numerous legs which are built over a wire frame that leads directly into the creature. Attached to the back of the insect is a gory pouch, giving the illusion that the insects innards have been squeezed out. This piece has been crafted from layers of latex laid over bubble wrap. This piece also features two long screws protruding from its' side as the insect was attached to the ground. Also included are a pair of wings which were used as dressing upon being detached during production.

Please note that this item features significant wear from production use as it was damaged onscreen. There are numerous breaks in the foam latex and resin, particularly around the neck, legs, and tail (see photos). This piece measures approximately 17" x 11" x 5" (43cm x 38cm x 13cm) and remains in overall fair condition.
