An Impossible Missions Force (IMF) computer watch from Brian De Palma's Mission: Impossible. In the opening sequence, IMF agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and security system specialist Jack Harmon (Emilio Estevez) used matching, high-tech computer watches to communicate during their ill-fated mission in Prague.
The IMF and its agents' futuristic gadgetry were first introduced in Bruce Geller's classic television series of the same name. De Palma's film was a massive critical and commercial success, earning more than $457 million in box office receipts and forever reigniting the franchise for the silver screen. Since the first film, Cruise has since reprised his role as Hunt, one of the IMF's most accomplished and principled agents, in eight feature-length installments grossing a collective $4.35 billion.
This custom-made, nonfunctional wristwatch features a textured plastic case inset with an acrylic screen and a red plastic strip, as well as a dense rubber watchband with a metal buckle. The watch shows evidence of wear consistent with on-set use, handling, and age, with the plastic strap hardened, brittle, and broken in multiple pieces and the acrylic scratched.
