A B-17 Bomber Model Miniature Display from Michael Caton-Jones's historical drama, Memphis Belle. The film follows the crew of the Memphis Belle on their 25th mission during World War II. This model miniature comes from one of the films hair raising aerial dogfights in which the 324th Bombardment Squadron encounters German Messerschmitt Bf 109 Fighter planes while en route to their target in Bremen, Germany. Known as a B-17 Flying Fortress, this model B-17 Flying Fortress is cast from a resin skinned hard-polyurethane foam, and has been painted with stunning detail. Built into this B-17 are two .50 BMG ball turrets located above and below the fuselage, however these model versions are not animated and are fixed in place. The aircraft's propellers have been constructed out of round cut Plexiglas, giving them the appearance that they are rapidly turning, despite being motionless. On the side of the plane are several identification markings, including 'DF A" and "124248." The tail of this aircraft has been threaded with a thin fishing line that was used to suspend the miniature during filming.
Please note that this model miniature features minor wear due to production use and age, including small cracks in the body of the plane and some bubbling on the wings (see photos). This piece comes beautifully presented on a custom built display stand with the film's title on the base. The title can also be illuminated by depressing a button located on the bottom of the base. Also of note, the display stand can be adjusted to allow the plane to be positioned at any desired angle. Including the base, this item measures approximately 51" x 37" x 28" (130cm x 94cm x 71cm) and remains in overall very good condition.
