A bloodied Mant! car model miniature with a crew T-shirt from the production of Joe Dante's Matinee. The titular half-man, half-ant of Lawrence Woolsey's (John Goodman) horror film Mant! destroyed vintage vehicles with its monstrous pincers. The film-within-a-film destruction sequences were achieved with a variety of practical effects, including pyrotechnics, puppetry, and model miniatures.
This lot originates from a crew member. It consists of a miniature of a vintage car in the style of a 1940s-era Auto Union Wanderer constructed from plastic, metal, and resin and intentionally blood-stained near its left bumper, as well as a cotton crew T-shirt (size M) printed with artwork from the film's promotional campaign. The car exhibits cracking to its gray finish and the shirt exhibits staining from wear. Dimensions: (model) 16" x 7" x 5.5" (40.75 cm x 18 cm x 14 cm)
Mark Stetson's run in Hollywood began with miniature work on Star Trek: The Most Picture in 1979, leading to positions as chief model maker for EEG, model shop supervisor for Boss Film Corporation, and ultimately founder of his own pioneering effects company, Stetson Visual Services, Inc. In the decades since, Stetson's work with miniatures and models on such seminal films as Blade Runner, Ghostbusters, Die Hard, and the Lord of the Rings franchise have earned him an Academy Award, two BAFTAs, and recognition as one of the world's most successful and imitated living visual effects artists.
