A prop axe used in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic adventure trilogy The Lord of the Rings. Tasked with the destruction of the One Ring by the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen), the young hobbit Frodo (Elijah Wood) heads off for Mordor, followed by a band of warriors dedicated to destroying the ring and bringing about the destruction of the evil Lord Sauron.
This axe and others like it were used by the rampaging orcs as they begin their campaign against the realms of Rohan, Gondor and the Shire under the command of Sauron and the wizard Saruman (Christopher Lee). The axe is made of resin with a hard rubber blade. Lengths of dyed cotton have been wrapped along the handle with leather strips attached near the bottom. The entire piece has been distressed to give it a worn, crude look, with steel and wood effect finishing dirtied down with additional browns and oranges to replicate the looks of grime and rust.

Distressed for use and with some signs of wear from use along the blade, the axe remains in very good production-used condition and comes presented in a stunning bespoke display featuring a laser-cut mount board with the film’s title artwork, two stills from the film and an opening front panel allowing direct access to the piece.
