A detailed Orc mask and teeth worn in Peter Jackson’s fantasy adaptation The Lord of the Rings. The Orcs were Sauron’s evil henchman, and their gruesome faces struck fear into the hearts of men.
This mask is comprised of several different foam latex prosthetic pieces that were applied to the actor’s head and then patched together and painted for a day’s filming. These prosthetics were designed to be used only once and then thrown away, but this one was saved. The mask suffered some splits and tears during removal from the actor’s head and has since been expertly restored. Because of the nature of prosthetic masks, this is believed to be one of only a handful that survived the production. The teeth in the display were also worn by an Orc during production.
