An annotated script from the production of Jack Gold’s 1980 family movie Little Lord Fauntleroy.
Discovering he is the missing heir to a British fortune, American boy Cedric ‘Ceddie’ Errol (Rick Schroder) moves from his poor home in Brooklyn to Dorincourt Castle, England. There he must live with live with the strict, impassive Earl of Dorincourt (Alec Guinness) who is responsible for the trust.
This final draft of the script is dated ‘June 10th 1980’ and printed on 238 sheets of pale green foolscap paper. The title page credits its writing to Blanche Hanalis, who based it on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s novel. The names of producer Norman Rosemont and director Gold are printed, along with the address of Rosemont Productions Ltd at Shepperton Studios.
Well-used during the production, the script pages feature numerous highlighted passages, strikethroughs and pencil markings. The nature of the passages selected suggests that the script may have been used in a scenery-based context. Several early pages feature diagonally cut-off edges, and there is a liquid stain on the first few pages – possibly where a drink was spilled.
Bound in a stained yellow card cover with brass-coloured split pins, the script remains in good overall production-used condition.
