A cavalry sabre used in the musical epic Les Misérables. Based on the classic novel by Victor Hugo, Les Misérables tells the story of reformed convict Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) and his attempts to leave his criminal past behind him, constantly dogged by the persistent and ruthless Inspector Javert (Russell Crowe).
This sword was used by Javert as he pursues the fleeing parolee Valjean on horseback to the town of Montreuil. A real vintage sword that was dressed by the film’s armourers for use on the production, the sabre features a leather-wrapped, wire-bound grip with a lion head pommel and an elaborate Imperial crest guard made of brass. The polished steel blade has been blunted for use on set. The leather sheath has brass hardware and has all the retention rings for being worn at the hip while riding.

Well used on the production, the sword features some light corrosion and the sheath has some wear and scuffs on the leather from use. However, in spite of these minor flaws, the piece remains in overall very good condition.
