David Lean's personal copy of T.E. Lawrence's "Seven Pillars of Wisdom", part of the basis for Lean's historical epic Lawrence of Arabia. The book is an autobiographical account of Lawrence's experiences as a military advisor to Bedouin forces during the Arab Revolt of 1916-18. Lean turned the story into one of the most influential films of all time, which was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, winning seven, including Lean's second Best Director award. This lot originates from Mike Fox, a focus puller on the production.

This copy of the book was Lean's personal one he used during the production for reference. It is a hardback First Edition, Fifth Impression, printed in September 1935. The cover reads "the sword also means clean-ness + death" between two golden scimitars. The book is accompanied by an art department budgetary memo and a torn piece of a handwritten note, possibly previously used as a bookmark, and a letter of authenticity from Fox. Dimensions: 26 cm x 20 cm x 5 cm (10.25" x 8" x 2")
