Artwork titled "Tyrannosaurus Rex" hand-painted by artist Kazuhiko Sano circa 1994. Among the most renowned posterists and illustrators in Hollywood history, Sano is best known for designing the legendary style "B" one-sheet for Richard Marquand's Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, which is widely considered by fans to be the best poster from that film's promotional campaign. Sano contributed artwork to other films, including Romancing the Stone, and numerous Star Trek novelizations.
Beyond his work in the entertainment industry, master illustrator Kazuhiko Sano is most celebrated for his incredible dinosaur paintings. Sano remains amongst the most highly regarded names in the fields of palaeoartistry and scientific illustration, with many of his works gracing the covers and internal pages of National Geographic and other popular publications. Today, surviving examples of original artwork by Sano are exceedingly scarce.
This artwork depicting a massive T-rex feasting on its prey is rendered and signed by Sano in mixed media on illustration board. It is hand-marked "Tyrannosaurus Rex by Kazuhiko Sano 1994" on its reverse and taped with a paper overlay. The board shows evidence of staining along its borders and tearing from adhesive consistent with handling and age. Dimensions: 31" x 24" (78.75 cm x 61 cm)
