This vibrant hand-painted original production cel features George Jetson and Rosie the Robot used in the making of Jetsons: The Movie (1990), personally signed by both studio founders, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Though this particular cel is unseen in the film's final cut, variations of the cel are seen.
Jetsons: The Movie marked the feature-length revival of the beloved futuristic family originally introduced to television audiences in 1962. The film was released in 1990 by Universal Pictures and represented the end of an era for the studio, as it was the last major production personally overseen by Hanna and Barbera before their retirement. The movie carried the spirit of mid-century optimism that defined the original series while integrating advanced cel techniques, lush background painting, and updated colour design that blended traditional animation with the bright palette of the late 1980s.
The signatures of Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera elevate this piece far beyond just production art, serving as a testament to two of the most influential figures in American animation. Together, their studio created an empire of pop-culture icons; The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, Tom and Jerry, and The Jetsons among them, defining television animation for over four decades.
Authenticated with the official Hanna-Barbera Animation Art gold seal and accompanied by its studio-issued Certificate of Authenticity, this cel stands as a rare artefact of both the film and the studio's legacy.
A beautifully preserved and character-rich production piece, it captures not only George and Rosie's humour and charm but also the final flourish of hand-painted artistry at Hanna-Barbera before the digital era began. Dimensions: 40.75 cm x 34.5 cm x 0.5 cm (16" x 13.5" x 0.25")
