King Pelias' (Douglas Wilmer) cuirass from Don Chaffey's fantasy adventure film Jason and the Argonauts. This lot comes from the archives of the Italian costume company Costumi d'Arte. Pelis wore his cuirass when he usurped the throne of Thessaly, killing one of Aristo's daughters in a temple of Hera in the process, after which the goddess becomes Jason's (Todd Armstrong) protector.

The cuirass is made of dark brown leather, with gold metal spiral detailing across the chest, and metal eyelet details across the bottom edge. A golden chain sits around the neckline, and two large hoops on either shoulder facilitate the attachment of a cape. The backplate and breastplate fasten together via buckles at the waist. The interior of the cuirass has been stamped with the number 12 on both the chestplate and backplate, as well as having a "Costumi D'Arte" sticker adhered to both chest and back. The leather exhibits minor cracking and discolouration, and the interior has been patched in a number of places, but the patches do not show on the outside.
