A retractable Argonaut sword and sheath from Don Chaffey's fantasy adventure Jason and the Argonauts. Swords of this style were wielded by the Argonauts throughout the film.

Renowned for Ray Harryhausen's groundbreaking stop-motion effects, the production marked a pivotal milestone in the evolution of cinematic visual effects.

Originating from an Italian prop and costume house, the items in this lot are made primarily of metal and embellished with decorative engravings and raised details. The aluminum blade is retractable when the point impacts with a solid target, indicating it was designed for moments when the wielder stabbed an enemy.

The retractable mechanism in the sword is a little stiff. Dimensions (sword): 31" x 6.75" x 1.25" (79 cm x 17 cm x 3 cm)
