James Bond's (Pierce Brosnan) Ericsson JB988 mobile phone from Roger Spottiswoode's Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies. Q (Desmond Llewelyn) gave Bond an upgraded Ericsson JB988 that included a fingerprint scanner, a 20,000-volt electroshock weapon and, most importantly, a remote-control handset for Bond's BMW 750iL.
The first Bond film produced after the death of long-time EON head Albert "Cubby" Broccoli, Tomorrow Never Dies opened in second place at the box office, behind Titanic. It has since become among the most acclaimed installments in the long-running franchise, with the American Film Institute naming it to its 100 Years of Thrills list in 2001 among other august accolades.
This phone was designed for the production by Ericsson, and a total of 12 were made, including six stunt and six SFX versions. This version is made primarily of resin and features two plastic screens. The phone opens on a hinge, revealing the screen Bond used to remotely drive his car.
