James Bond's (Pierce Brosnan) exploding pen prototype from Martin Campbell's Bond film GoldenEye. Q (Desmond Llewelyn) provided Bond with an exploding pen. In the film's climax, a nervous Boris Grishenko (Alan Cumming) inadvertently activated the pen's explosive feature, with Bond using this as an opportunity to damage the control centre and escape.

The pen, crafted from metal, originally featured a functional "arming" indicator: after three clicks, a red light would flash through a transparent window on its body. Internal wires connected to a 9V battery socket powered this effect, though the mechanism is no longer operational. This prototype was created when the idea of it flashing on screen to signal it was armed was still under consideration. Ultimately, the production opted to use non-flashing pens instead.
