12 artworks, primarily of the titular character of Brad Bird's animated sci-fi film The Iron Giant, alternately hand-painted and hand-drawn by the film's lead "Hogarth" animator, Richard Bazley. In the film, an extraterrestrial robot (Vin Diesel) crash-landed near Maine, where he was found and befriended by local boy Hogarth Hughes (Eli Marienthal).
Following a tumultuous development period, Bird brought Bazley - an animator for such modern classics as Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Pocahontas, and Hercules - aboard as a lead animator and sequence director. Although critically acclaimed upon release, The Iron Giant originally underperformed at the box office. In the years since its release, it has gained a cult following and is now considered one of the best animated films of all time. Original artwork from the artists involved, including Bazley, is today extremely scarce.
Created following the production, this set consists of three illustrations hand-painted in mixed media, including charcoal and watercolours, as well as nine hand-drawn pencil sketches. The images primarily depict the Iron Giant and Hogarth with each image signed "RB" in the bottom right corner. The artwork is contained in a black card box with additional sheets of paper to separate the work. Dimensions: (boxed) 45 cm x 33 cm x 3 cm (17.75" x 13" x 1.25")
