An Angel of Death puppet from Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. During the climax, French archaeologist Rene Belloq (Paul Freeman) and his Nazi allies opened the Ark of the Covenant, releasing ghosts, flames and bolts of lightning, which killed the assembled soldiers. Only Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) and Marion (Karen Allen) survived, by closing their eyes.

The film was an immediate critical and financial success. It was nominated for eight Academy Awards, and won four, including Best Visual Effects, and has remained a cultural touchstone.

This ghost and others like it were created by ILM model maker Steve Gawley. It is made primarily of torn white silk with a weighted head and torso, and was pulled with wire through a large cloud tank filled with water, giving the effect of it floating through the air. The puppet is attached to a metal rod, which protrudes from the back of its head. Dimensions (puppet): 38 cm x 8 cm x 4 cm (15" x 3.25" x 1.5")
