A bound early draft of Lawrence Kasdan's screenplay from the production of Steven Spielberg's Raiders of the Lost Ark. Impressed by his script for what would become Michael Apted's Continental Divide, George Lucas and Spielberg hired Kasdan to write the screenplay in 1978 based on an original idea Lucas created circa 1973. The final screenplay, for which Lucas and Philip Kaufman later received "Story by" credit, was completed in December 1979, six months before the film began principal photography in La Rochelle, France.
This 144-page, brass brad-bound screenplay originates from the collection of executive producer Howard Kazanjian. Labeled as the property of Medway Productions on front, it is an undated, early draft, as indicated by various dialogue and character names that would ultimately be cut from the final final, such as a dialogue between the Mean Mongolian (Sonny Caldinez) and Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen) where the Mongolian is identified as "Belzig." Examples of this draft remain unavailable to read online, making it extraordinarily rare.
