Indiana Jones' (Harrison Ford) fedora from an Entertainment Weekly cover shoot promoting James Mangold's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. For its June 27, 2023 digital cover shoot and interview with Ford about his long-celebrated adventurer role, EW dressed the studio with an assortment of Jones' signature relics. High-quality replicas of Jones' hat and whip, the character's two most iconic accessories considered to be essential parts of the Indiana Jones mythos, were appropriately featured front and center during the shoot.
Jones' classic fedora was initially designed by Deborah Nadoolman Landis, the costume designer for Raiders of the Lost Ark, based on concepts by George Lucas. The original films famously used the Poet hat from Herbert Johnson Hat Company, a highly recognizable fedora known for its broad brim and high crown. Three decades later, Herbert Johnson also made the hats designed by franchise mainstay costume designer Joanna Johnston for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Created by custom hatmakers Steele & Jones based on the original production Herbert Johnson hats, this Indiana Jones fedora was acquired solely for the Entertainment Weekly shoot and not used for the production of Dial of Destiny. It is made from brown felt with a black-brown grosgrain hatband, a brown leather sweatband on the interior, and the maker's label on the underside of the crown. On the interior of the sweatband is an additional hand-marked Steele & Jones tag listing it as number "1112" with style type "TOD-Bridge" handwritten in blue ink. Also included is one black zip-up hat case. The hatband exhibits a mild fraying along the edge of the grosgrain ribbon. Dimensions: 17" x 13" x 7" (43.25 cm x 33.25 cm x 18 cm)
Estimate: $6,000 - 12,000
