”Anybody can kill anybody, Katniss. Even a president. You just have to be willing to sacrifice yourself.”
Leeg #1’s (Misty Ormiston) military costume from Francis Lawrence’s 2015 dystopian sequel The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.
As the war of Panem continues to grow and different districts get destroyed, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) finds herself as the reluctant leader of the rebellion, and must bring together an army and take down the evil President Snow (Donald Sutherland).
This military costume was made for and worn by Leeg #1, one of the soldiers who accompanies Katniss and Boggs (Mahershala Ali) on their mission into the Capitol. She is named as such because her sister, Leeg #2 is also on the team and collectively they are known as ‘The Leegs’. They are heavily involved in the action, with Leeg #2 getting injured in an explosion, before the two of them lose their lives valiantly fighting off Capitol forces.
The costume consists of black trousers with elasticated suspenders, a grey undershirt, black hooded jacket, US size 9 boots, a belt with knife sheath and gun holster, front and back padded armour, and 3 small pouches and 1 large pouch. The holster contains a foam stunt gun and a rubber SFX knife features inside the sheath.
Apart from the boots, no labels indicating sizing are present within the costume as it was specifically made for Ormiston in the role. The labels that are in the clothes all signify that they belong to Leeg #1.
The SFX knife is made of rubber and has had the blade cut, with coloured tape stuck to it. The blade has broken at some point and been glued back together. The gun is made from foam and is painted black and silver to look more realistic. It has some wear from use on the production, with some of the foam now visible.
The piece generally shows some wear from production use, including scuffs, scratches and patches of discolouration and staining, but this is expected from a military costume such as this. Overall it is in an excellent condition.
