Max’s ears and ear components made for the production of Ron Howard’s family comedy How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This lot contains numerous pieces that were made for the various canine performers that played the character of Max. This lot contains three completed ear caps and one prototype ear cap. One of the completed ear caps covers the top of the dog’s head and is constructed from fiberglass covered in faux fur. The other completed ear caps partially cover the top of the head. One is constructed from carbon fiber covered in faux fur and the other is constructed from plastic covered in faux fur. Both of these pieces feature padding on their undersides and Velcro straps. The carbon fiber cap is stored in a plastic bag that is labeled "Chip’s Half" Additionally, these pieces have spandex pockets that hid the dog’s real ears. The prototype ear cap is made from a different style of fur that covers a vacuformed plastic shape. This cap also features foam and Velcro. Finally, this lot includes components used to create the ear caps including fur pieces and vacuformed plastic pieces that are labeled with the dog that they were made for. This lot shows wear from storage and use but remains in overall good condition.
