The Grinch's (Jim Carrey) light-up full-size sleigh from Ron Howard's holiday comedy How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The Grinch had a change of heart after stealing all of the Christmas presents in Whoville, saving them, along with Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen), from falling off Mount Crumpit on his enormous sleigh.
Based on the original illustrations of Dr. Seuss and acquired from Universal by Arizona Picture Cars after production concluded, this oversized, multi-media sleigh is thought to be one of only two full-size sleighs created by production for use in the climactic sequence. It features a combination of found objects and electronic elements surrounding an inflatable red velvet-lined Santa-style gift sack centrepiece designed to appear constructed from patchwork.
The sleigh's base is constructed from metal with various electronics, including fans, hair dryers, false piping, and a medley of functional head and front lights, affixed to the front. The top features a grated metal seat with a steering mechanism for the performer. The sack is wrapped with various Whoville decor, including a pink plastic toy tricycle with a missing wheel, a sign hand-painted "Merry Merry" by production, strands of green, gold, and silver tinsel, glittering plastic tree ornaments, and a dangling bushel of prop bananas. The sack inflates automatically on low, medium, or high settings via a 110v power plug concealed amidst the machinery.
Following production, this sleigh was decommissioned and its propane tanks were emptied by Ghost Ride Productions. It was also mounted to a removable metal tongue for transportation. The sleigh's other mechanics are intentionally distressed to appear rusty and well-used, and it exhibits bent metal, scratching, and staining throughout from use by production and as a Christmas display following filming.
