A mermaid maquette made for Steven Spielberg's 1991 fantasy film, Hook. When the notorious pirate Captain Hook (Dustin Hoffman) kidnaps the children of a grown up Peter (Robin Williams), the work-obsessed lawyer must return to Neverland in order to remember his past and save his kids. Mermaids can be seen in the film as they save Peter from drowning after he walks the plank of the Jolly Roger. This maquette was created during production as an early design of Neverland's underwater residents. Constructed from biscuit foam filled resin, this maquette depicts a mermaid laying across sea foam covered rocks. Unlike the final Mermaids this maquette shows the creatures with exposed breasts and brown hair. The piece shows remarkable craftsmanship with realistic rough scales and is expertly painted. The mermaid maquette shows minor wear due to production use and age with a small break in the foam in the rocks on the backside, however it remains in otherwise very good condition.
