The Marauder's Map from the Harry Potter film series. The map made its first appearance in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban when it was given to Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) by Fred and George Weasley (James and Oliver Phelps), who stole it from Filch (David Bradley) and used it to sneak around Hogwarts. Harry then used it in later films to track the whereabouts of teachers, students and hidden rooms and passages.
This lot originates from actor and stunt performer David Holmes, who was Radcliffe's stunt double for the first six Harry Potter films, until he suffered a serious injury on the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows set. He was recently the subject of the HBO documentary David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived.
David recently discovering this piece whilst doing research for his forthcoming book The Boy Who Lived, which is released on November 14th, the same day as the auction. Whilst rummaging through his memorabilia he made this miraculous discovery tucked in amongst his "get well" cards from his time at the hospital following his injury 15 years ago.
David has decided to put it up for auction so he can improve his quality of life. Living with a disability like David's is very expensive, and proceeds from the the sale will go towards helping him fund the purchase of wheelchairs and mobility equipment, along with supporting his personal care costs.
The map is printed on intentionally distressed and aged paper, replete with water stains and brown spotting. It folds out and features numerous map sections detailing areas of the school. The centre of the map features a smaller fold-out section which includes three-dimensional pop-up staircases.
The map has creasing and fold lines where it has been handled. Dimensions (folded): 40 cm x 21.5 cm (15.75" x 8.5")
Estimate: £20,000 - 40,000 M
