Hedwig's cage from the Harry Potter film series. In Chris Columbus' Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Rubeus Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) bought Hedwig and her cage as a birthday gift for Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe). The snowy owl remained loyal to Harry throughout his time at Hogwarts, and ultimately abandoned her cage to sacrifice herself to a Death Eater's Killing Curse to save Harry and Hagrid in David Yates' Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I.
As one of Harry's closest companions, Hedwig appeared inside and out of her signature cage throughout the films. In Harry Potter franchise lore, the cage was a custom creation of Eeylops Owl Emporium and Hedwig's beloved house, as well as a site of significant pain, as she was tortured by Vernon Dursley and - in a key difference from the film adaptation of Deathly Hallows - killed while inside it. Hedwig's cage has since come to symbolize the longstanding friendship between her and Harry.
Multiple cages of this style were used across the productions. This vintage-style birdcage features a kettle-shaped handle on top, a metal wire frame, a twine-wrapped brass perch, and a rawhide tray. It is intentionally aged by production to appear antique with grime and discoloration applied throughout. The cage exhibits several bent wires, glue residue where fractures in the frame were repaired after production, and paint flaking. Dimensions: 22" x 14.5" x 29.5" (56 cm x 38.5 cm x 75 cm)
Estimate: $10,000 - 20,000
