146. Hogwarts Envelope with Wax Seal

A Hogwarts envelope from Chris Columbus’ fantasy film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Owl post inundated the Dursley household with letters informing Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) of his acceptance into Hogwarts - despite Uncle Vernon's (Richard Griffiths) best efforts.
The envelope is made of marble effect paper, with the Hogwarts crest printed on the rear side. It features a real red wax Hogwarts seal, which has been broken. Unlike more common examples of envelopes from the film, this envelope does not have a printed address on the front, and was likely used for scenes when only the reverse side of the envelope was intended to be seen, or a discarded test envelope. The envelope was originally gifted to the nephew of one of the film’s production designers, when he visited the set as a child. A blank, folded sheet of envelope paper is contained inside, and the closure flap of the envelope has been torn on one edge. Dimensions: 7" x 5.5" (18 cm x 13.5 cm)
