A MA5-series rifle from Rupert Sanders' The Life (also known as We Are ODST), a live-action trailer from the promotion of the video game Halo 3: ODST. The fifth installment in the Halo franchise, Halo 3: ODST took place between the events of Halo 2 and Halo 3. It was initially planned as a downloadable story expansion for Halo 3, but grew to such an extent during development that it was ultimately released as its own standalone game. ODST sold more than 3 million copies worldwide, becoming the Xbox 360's top-selling game at the time of its release. The game was named one of the best video games of the year by multiple publications, including Time Magazine, Wired, and Softpedia.
ODST had a massive marketing campaign that included a tie-in comic, print and online advertisements, and a live-action trailer titled The Life. The trailer, a 150-second short film, followed the life of a young Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST) named Tarkov as he went through enlistment, training, and battle, before finally shown as a veteran soldier taking a moment to remember a fallen comrade before returning to the fray. The Life won a number of awards, including the Visual Effects Society Award® for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Video Game Trailer as well as Gold for Cinematography, Silver for Direction, and a Bronze in the Film category at the 57th Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.
