An Orb Chamber panel from James Gunn’s Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy.
Taken from Earth as a young boy, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), aka Star-Lord, becomes a rogue Ravager, taking on bounties and smuggling for a living. However, when he is sent to pick up a priceless orb containing untold power, a series of events forces him to change his ways to save the galaxy.
This panel was used to line the walls of the massive chamber holding the Orb, a device used to store one of the six Infinity Stones. Star-Lord manages to recover the Orb just before the arrival of Korath (Djimon Hounsou), henchman of the genocidal Ronan (Lee Pace). The chamber was later seen in Avengers: Endgame when Rhodey (Don Cheadle) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) go to Morag and get the Orb before Star-Lord can.
The piece is made of plaster over a wooden backing board, with large wooden supports used to mount the piece onto the cavernous Orb Chamber set. Telling the story of the creation of the six Infinity Stones, the panel shows the Cosmic Entities forging the stones, with each of the powerful ingots picked out in their respective colours – purple, blue, red, green, orange and gold. Red gems are picked out at the corners, with the panel finished in blue and faux-gold paint.
Displaying some wear to the plaster and paint finish from when it was removed from the elaborately built set, the piece remains in very good condition.
