Baby chimp ‘Lucy’ from Hugh Hudson’s 1984 novel adaptation Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. A missing heir of a respected Scottish family is raised in African jungles by animals, finally he returns to his human roots only to find the two worlds vastly different.
The incredibly detailed and lifelike infant was created by Rick Baker and his effects team, creators of creatures and effects for such films as American Werewolf in London, Star Wars, Batman Forever and Planet of the Apes. The piece was used by the apes in the jungle during the early scenes of the movie, and her death is the impulse behind the chimps adopting the baby Tarzan.
Made from foam latex, the baby is coloured brown with a body of dark brown faux-fur and realistic glass eyes. She is fully detailed and in perfect proportion, with wrinkled hands and feet, and even a belly button. The piece displays signs of age including firming of the foam latex, some slight flaking on the sides and her head (which is attached separately) having become slightly loose. However, in spite of this wear, Lucy remains in overall good condition.
Materials: Foam Latex, Ferrous Metals, Plastic, Glass.
