A gremlin puppet from Joe Dante's Gremlins. Chaos ensued after Billy Peltzer's (Zach Galligan) mogwai, Gizmo, multiplied and transformed into mischievous gremlins that wreaked havoc through town.
Dante won the Best Director 1985 Saturn Award for a film whose depictions of violence helped spur the creation of the PG-13 rating within the Motion Picture Association of America's system, and also inspired various films within the subgenre dealing with antagonistic small monsters. The film is considered among the greatest science-fiction comedies of all time as well as a classic of 1980s American cinema.
This and all of the creature puppets were designed by legendary effects artist Chris Walas. While puppets from the sequel remain in some private collections, surviving puppets from the first film are exceedingly rare.
Made from foam and latex, the gremlin is moulded around an interior metal rod and painted in shades of brown, green, and yellow. It has red and orange acrylic eyes and pointed yellow teeth. The puppet has undergone sympathetic restoration, most notably to repair damage on the chest, neck, and wrists as well as to reblend paint around the repairs. Additionally, new armature wire was installed in its ears to keep them upright. Also included is a custom metal display stand. This puppet's original puppeteering hole on its back left shoulder remains open from production, and as it exhibits foam fragility, it should be handled with care. Dimensions: 43.25 cm x 24.25 cm x 68.5 cm (17" x 9.5" x 27")
Estimate: £25,000 - 50,000 Ω
