A hero George Gremlin puppet from Joe Dante's comedy-horror sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch. George appeared several times during the film, most notably in the scenes in which he terrorised cooking show, "Microwave with Marge" and in the toy store where he smoked a cigar and tortured Gizmo. This puppet was used in scenes where the upper body was prominently featured and needed to include head and facial movement.
The puppets were designed and created by Academy Award® winner Rick Baker and his team at Cinovation Studio. Made of foam latex over a metal-and-resin armature, the Gremlin features acrylic eyes and claws, as well as George's signature sinister snarl. George includes disabled puppetry mechanisms which were used by the puppeteers on set. Included is a wire-and-toggle stick which once controlled the eyes and eyelids. These have been disabled to protect the longevity of the puppet. The Gremlin also features a tube labelled "Smoke Tube", which would have been used when George was seen smoking a cigar.
The puppet has been sympathetically restored by Brian Penikas (a member of the Creature Crew) and his team at Make-Up and Monsters Studios. It is presented on its original painted stand, and the original label has been preserved. The label describes the puppet as "Secondary foreground, George #3" and includes a list of attributes. Due to age and production use, George shows some wear, including cracks to the foam-latex skin. Dimensions: 30.5 cm x 40.5 cm x 76 cm (12" x 16" x 30")
