A Roman archer's bow used by soldiers in Ridley Scott's Oscar®-winning action epic Gladiator.
Betrayed by his Emperor’s son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and sold into slavery, Roman general Maximus (Russell Crowe) finds his calling in the arena as a gladiator. But when a festival of games begins in Commodus’ honour, Maximus returns to Rome with thoughts of revenge for his lost Emperor and family.
This bow and others like it were used by Roman archers, most notably in the opening battle of the film as Romans faced off against Germanic tribes. The archers unleashed flaming arrows on the unlucky soldiers facing them. Made from wood, the bow is intentionally tarnished with a black leather grip in the middle and a long bowstring linking each end.
The bow displays wear from production use and has some specks of white paint on the back. The string has become detached at one end and has been re-tied in a loose knot. Despite this, it remains in overall good condition.
Materials: String, Leather, Wood.
