A Praetorian guard sword and scabbard from Ridley Scott's Gladiator. After Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) became Emperor, he gained the Praetorian Guard, an elite unit of the Imperial Roman Army, as his personal bodyguards.

This lot consists of a sword with an aluminum blade, a wooden hilt stained black, a textured purple leatherette grip, and a rounded pommel, as well as a black leatherette-wrapped scabbard with gilded faux gold details on its ends and a brown leather strap. The hilt's guard is decorated with a brass-color band engraved "SPQR" ("Senatus Populusque Romanus", or "The Roman Senate and People.") The sword exhibits scratching and nicks while the scabbard exhibits paint flaking on the faux gold, scuffing and flaking to the wrapping, and some discoloration to the leather from production use. Dimensions: (largest) 32" x 4" x 3" (81.5 cm x 10.25 cm x 7.75 cm)
