Our expert's notes
A light-up miners’ helmet from John Carpenter’s 2001 sci-fi Ghosts of Mars.
This helmet and others like it were made for the production and are worn by the possessed miners on Mars. The helmet is made predominantly of resin with pieces of leather at the back which go down the neck and a chin strap that clips around the front. The helmet features an outer shell and inner shell, between which the battery pack that powers the light on the front is hidden. Inside there is foam padding held down with black tape.
The piece has been intentionally distressed to look well used and rusted. There is some additional wear from production use, including a big chip on the left-hand side of the outer shell. Overall the piece is in an excellent condition.
Materials: Resin, Leather, Man-Made Woven Fibres, Ferrous Metals, Plastic.
