This piece comes from the collection of Peter Mosen, widely known as the first-ever "Ghost-head" (super-fan), who was part of numerous official Ghostbusters publicity event; Mosen obtained the item from a production source in the 1980s.
The piece is made out of foam latex and has been finished in dark shades of brown and black to depict scorching. This piece consists of a skin only as it was designed to go over a fiberglass underskull. Made for the production of the film, this piece remains unused on screen as it was produced for a "melting mouth" shot that was cut from the final film, but is depicted in some photos from the production.
The piece has deteriorated heavily over the years and is dry and prone to cracking, but it remains in fair yet very fragile condition.
