A light-up "Thrower" neutrona wand from a semi-hero Proton Pack from Ivan Reitman's Ghostbusters II. Ghostbusters Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) used their Neutrona Wands - blasters attached to their particle-accelerating proton packs - to weaken and capture ghosts while working as paranormal investigators.
For Ghostbusters II, the prop department created new lightweight Proton Packs made primarily of fiberglass and resin, with minimal metal components. These "semi-hero" versions were far lighter than the more robust and detailed hero packs used in the first film (though they still weighed around 28 pounds), and were intended for wide-shot or stunt use while retaining a convincing appearance on screen. This particular Neutrona Wand is one such semi-hero prop made specifically for Ghostbusters II.
The wand is constructed primarily of resin with metal, rubber, and fiberglass elements. It features a ribbed hose, three toggle switches, molded label decals, a hook on the rear for mounting to a Proton Pack, and is marked in several locations with the number "3." It retains its original light-up electronics, which have been configured to operate via a single external battery pack: one switch powers all illumination, including steady "on" button lights and a flashing red indicator. Unlike the scrolling LED bar graph of the first film's hero wands, this bar is a static-lit display, typical of Ghostbusters II's semi-hero throwers.
The piece has been sympathetically restored for display with the addition of several accurate replica components. These include a vintage-style Clippard Minimatic valve mounted on the wand body, a clear acrylic barrel with metal hardware and red tubing, an orange "hat light" cover near the barrel tip, a small light cover on the wand's upper surface, and three silver resin knobs - two on the top panel and one on the side. It is accompanied by its original corrugated black hose, which would have connected it to the Proton Pack.
The wand remains in heavily worn condition with substantial production-use distressing. It exhibits chipped paint, adhesive residue, and loss to several components. The resin heatsink on the right side has significant damage with most of its fins broken, a toggle switch and machined tips are missing, and the underside of the left-side switchbox has lost its cover plate. Dimensions: 24" x 9" x 5.5" (61 cm x 23 cm x 14 cm)
Contains electronics; see electronics notice in the Buyer's Guide.
Estimate: $20,000 - 40,000
