A mechanical demon puppet arm from Ivan Reitman's supernatural comedy Ghostbusters. Demonic arms burst through a chair and grabbed Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) while she sat in her apartment. This arm was created for the shots in which Barrett's chair was dragged across the room, as the gloved puppeteers used in closeups could not move along with the chair.
This mechanical arm comes from the collection of Ghost Shop creature effects supervisor Stuart Ziff. It is made of dark blue latex foam with synthetic hair over a metal frame and base with a white nylon elastic cable extending from the arm and secured to the base. This arm exhibits discoloration, cracked latex, and smashed fingertips from storage. Dimensions: 28" x 9" x 4" (71.25 cm x 23 cm x 10.25 cm)
Contains mechanical components; see notice in the Buyer's Guide.
This lot comes from the collection of effects pioneer Stuart Ziff. Upon moving to Edlund's Entertainment Effects Group (later renamed Boss Film Studios) in 1983, Ziff headed the 50-person "Ghost Shop" responsible for the groundbreaking demonic special effects in Ivan Reitman's comedy classic Ghostbusters. Numerous ghosts and spectral phenomena created for the picture, including the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man's costume, immediately landed in the American pop culture lexicon, where they've remained for nearly four decades. Propstore is proud to offer never-beforeseen production materials from Stuart Ziff's pioneering work on Ghostbusters, alongside other one-of-a-kind memorabilia from his 40-plus-year career as a Hollywood pioneer.
