30" x 40"; Style Z
Fine+ Rolled
20th Century Fox, 1958
This rare poster format is considered by many to be the best US poster released for the film, depicting David Hedison as Delambre in his partially transformed state as a giant fly.
A scientist experiences a devastating accident while testing his newly invented teleportation device in the classic original version of the popular horror/sci-fi thriller directed by Kurt Neumann. There were two different styles of 30" x 40" posters and this "Style Z" is far superior to the other style. This example is unrestored and rolled and displays pinholes, border wear with creases and a few edge tears, small creases beneath the upper border and above the lower border and sporadic crimping. This format is very sensitive to handling due to the thicker paper stock and this unrestored example has survived very well and presents beautifully.
This is a familiar story of science gone wrong: scientist Andre Delambre (David "Al" Hedison) has created a matter transporter, and, in the best sci-fi tradition, decides to use himself as a human guinea pig during a test run. Unfortunately, a common housefly gets in the transporter with Andre, producing a grotesque human-fly hybrid. Based on a short story by George Langelaan that was first published in the June 1957 issue of Playboy Magazine, the screenplay is by noted author James Clavell, and was his first filmed script. The film also stars Vincent Price as François, Andre's brother, in a role that, along with his starring roles in "House of Wax" (1953) and "The Tingler" (1957), would help cement his reputation as the new "King of Horror." .
