Sir Malagant’s (Ben Cross) SFX retractable sword used in the 1995 Sean Connery and Richard Gere film First Knight. Malagant can be seen with the hero version of the sword throughout the movie, and clearly during the final epic battle inside the grounds of the castle. This particular sword would have been used during any fights where Malagant plunges his sword into his opponent. Made from aluminium with vicous looking crescents cut out of the blade, the bottom 29cm (15.5”) can be pushed into the upper blade to give the impression of penetrating the victim. The guard and pommel are also made from metal painted to resemble gold and continue the crescent cut out design and has begun to oxidise in places to an interesting green, the handle has been wrapped in brown leather to add some grip, and is a surprisingly heavy piece. At full blade extension the sword measures 93cm (36.5”) long.
