Sir Malagant’s (Ben Cross) hero metal sword used in the 1995 Sean Connery and Richard Gere film First Knight. Malagant can be seen with his sword throughout the movie as the rebellious Knight of King Arthur’s, and clearly during the final epic battle inside the grounds of the castle. Made from aluminium with aggressive looking crescents cut out of the blade, it gives the sword a particularly draconian feel. The guard and pommel are made from metal, originally painted to resemble gold but has since tarnished with age, and both continue the crescent cut out design, the handle has been wrapped in brown leather to add some grip, and the entire piece shows plenty of signs of extensive use on set, from chinks in the blade to the well weathered leather grip. The sword measures 99cm (39”) long.
