Mal's (Nathan Fillion) screen-matched Liberty Hammer pistol from Joss Whedon's Serenity. As Mal's favoured weapon, he carried and used his Liberty Hammer pistol throughout the film. Distinctive markings in the distressing of this pistol's metal exterior screen-match it to the scene in which Mal and his companions were pursued by Reavers after the heist.
Firefly, the television series, found success after its cancellation, with that unfortunately late success directly led to the franchise's continuation in the form of the theatrically-released feature film, Serenity. Despite lacklustre box office results, Serenity garnered positive approval from audiences and critics. It received several awards, including the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, the Nebula Award for Best Script, and the Prometheus Special Award. It remains a culturally impactful film, with a collection of DVDs from the show and film, available on the International Space Station as entertainment for the crews.
This pistol was made for the television series, then modified for the film, differing slightly from its television appearance in that it features a removable magazine element that was added specifically for the film. This is one of only two live-fire versions of the pistol that were ever made. This pistol, built over a real Taurus Model 85 revolver with the serial number MC83218, features a production-made brass-colour metal housing that gives it the appearance of an otherworldly science-fiction weapon, a spring-loaded "slide" on the top of the gun which is movable by hand, a functional safety on the left side, a cover plate on the left side that was made removable to facilitate the loading and unloading of blank rounds, and brown wooden grips. One of the inner plates is marked "APPLIED FX" for the company that originally created the pistol for the Firefly series, before its reuse in the film. The pistol comes with a black nylon bag labelled "Serenity Nathan Fillion Taurus M. 85 SN: MC83218." In addition to production-made distressing and ageing to the metal, this pistol exhibits scuffing in the finish and small chips in the wooden grip. This pistol is being offered in deactivated state and will come with a U.K. certificate of deactivation. The pistol is currently undergoing deactivation and will ship to the winning bidder after the deactivation process is completed. Dimensions: 38 cm x 4.5 cm x 14 cm (15" x 1.75" x 5.5")
