Tyler Durden's (Brad Pitt) costume with photo-matched red leather jacket from David Fincher's Fight Club. Durden wore his signature jacket and US Postal Service trousers throughout the film, including when he first asked The Narrator (Edward Norton) to hit him as hard as he could. He later wore his explicit Black Sugar tank top while fighting The Narrator to prevent him from disabling Durden's homemade Project Mayhem explosives.
This rust-red leather, slim-fit, hip-length jacket - one of the most recognizable and emblematic examples of Durden's bohemian, mishmash 1970s-inspired wardrobe - was one of several jackets used in the production of the film and for marketing purposes. This jacket photo-matches to a promotional shot from the July 1999 cover of W Magazine. The magazine featured an article with Pitt in several film-used costumes, including a Black Sugar tank top.
The jacket was custom-designed for the film and features a button-up front with four brown plastic buttons, two outside flap hip pockets, maroon lining on the interior, and contrasting cream-colour double stitching throughout. One button is intentionally chipped, as were buttons on each of Durden's red jackets.
The tank top is a polyester blend covered in explicit magazine cover images and with crimson accents on the sleeves and neckline. The blue polyester blend trousers - hand-labeled "Tyler #1" in the waistband - feature a dark blue stripe running down each side and clasp and zipper closures. Also included are a pair of replica shoes and sunglasses added to complete the costume. The jacket and trousers have been intentionally distressed by production to appear well-worn, with the trousers deliberately stained, dirtied, and torn.
Estimate: £40,000 - 80,000 Ω
