"Ferris Bueller's Day Off," a teen comedy by John Hughes starring Matthew Broderick, follows high school slacker Ferris as he skips school in Chicago with his girlfriend and best friend, often breaking the fourth wall. Filmed in iconic city locations in 1985, the movie earned $70 million on a $5 million budget and was praised for Broderick's performance, humor, and tone.
