A script used in the production of the William Friedkin horror film The Exorcist. Actress Chris McNeil (Ellen Burstyn) notices her 12-year-old daughter Regan (Linda Blair) has started to behave strangely and after numerous tests doctors cannot find the cause. However, when Roman Catholic priests Father Karras (Jason Miller) and Father Merrin (Max von Sydow) perform an exorcism, they come face to face with the devil.
Bound by a script clip at the top with a blue card cover on the front with the title of the film printed, this production-used script is numbered ‘33’ and was made specifically for the export of the film to other territories and was used in the process of dubbing and creating subtitles. The script is dated January 15th, 1974 and is credited to director William Friedkin and producer William Peter Blatty.

The first page highlights technical details such as the number of reels, the amount of footage to ensure dubbing and subtitling was applied at the correct points in the film. The second page has notes for the translator with instructions on how long spoken titles must be and what to pay attention to when translating for the scenes set in Iraq. Within the script itself, there are 133 pages detailing specific action and dialogue being shown on screen, all matched to specific time coding for absolute accuracy, and all printed single-sided on white paper. Each change in projection reel is noted at the bottom of a page highlighting the last frame and scene, with thirteen reels accounted for in all.

A fantastic and rare piece of movie history, the script shows signs of production use with creases and minor tears to the page edges but remains in an overall very good condition for its age.
