A set of three stop-motion ghost puppets from Sam Raimi's Evil Dead II. In the film's eerie opening sequence, various ghostly creatures from the "evil worlds beyond" flew out of a swirling vortex.

This lot, from the personal collection of special effects artist Tom Sullivan, consists of three puppets made of polymer clay over wire armatures and are acrylic-painted black and gray with yellow embellishments. The ghosts depicted include a winged skull, a spider with a spotted skull-like abdomen, and a screaming face with tufted hair and clawed arms. The opening sequence of Evil Dead II was a groundbreaking fusion of stop-motion animation, optical effects, and Raimi's manic visual style, pushing the boundaries of practical effects at a time when CGI was still in its infancy. The puppets have stiffened with age and exhibit some paint loss and cracking, exposing the armatures in place. Dimensions: (largest) 9" x 3" x 2" (23 cm x 7.75 cm x 5.25 cm)
