Alai’s (Suraj Partha) Dragon Flash Suit from Gavin Hood’s 2012 sci-fi adaptation, Ender’s Game. In the film, Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield) is recruited to lead the International Fleet against the alien race known as Formics. Flash Suits were used during the film’s Battle Room training sequences. Features of the suit, such as the neck piece and shoulder pads, were designed to be modular, allowing a suit’s color accents to be changed depending on what army was being portrayed. Many items of this lot are components Alai’s harness Flash Suit and were likely worn by Partha while shooting Battle Room sequences.

This full Flash Suit costume consists of a jacket, pants, balaclava, gloves, boots, orange Flash Suit pads, yellow Flash Suit pads, a Dragon Army helmet, and a Flash Gun. The jacket is made of synthetic nylon material with a concealed zipper up the center of the chest. The jacket features no sizing information but is labelled “Alai Harness Suit”. The removable orange pads are labeled “Alai Hero” and the removable yellow pads are labeled “Alai harness”. The pants, labeled “Alai Harness Suit”, are made from the same material as the jacket and feature a bib style mesh top with black collar that is worn under the shirt. A small magnet on the right leg can be used to hold a Flash Gun. The pants also feature concealed clips which correspond to clips on the jacket.

The gloves are made from matching nylon and are labeled “Alai #2”. The boots are constructed from a pair of Rhino shoes (US size 9) and are specifically labeled for Partha’s use. The Dragon helmet is made of resin with a clear acrylic visor and was cast from 3D printed master patterns specifically sized to fit the actor. The helmet separates into three different pieces; cap, visor, and jaw. The cap is labeled with sizing information “20 S”. The The inner cap and foam lining are labelled for “Ashleigh” and “Alai Stunt” likely referring to stunt double Ashleigh Dejon. The piece features a hidden switch and battery compartment to operate an internal fan, which remains untested. A dark grey balaclava, labeled “Alai 2” is worn under the helmet and tucked into the collar.

The Flash Gun is constructed primarily of 3d printed resin pieces. The gun features small coils running inside the gun’s barrel and a magnet mounted in translucent blue plastic for mounting to a Flash Suit. The gun is detailed with silver and copper paint to appear metallic. The piece has slight wear from production use and measures 10” x 6” x 1½”.

This lot includes a production made foam mannequin cast from Suraj Partha. Mannequins like this were created for many of the main characters to be used by the costuming department when constructing the custom tailored Flash Suits. The foam remains unpainted but for the head. The arms, one leg, and head are all removable. When fully dressed the Flash Suit measures 63” x 23” x 13” (160cm x 59 cm x 38cm).

The included mannequin has sustained some damage from production use including damaged connectors and chips to foam. All other components of this lot remain in great, production used condition.
