A prop katana used in Neill Blomkamp’s hit sci-fi action film Elysium. When ex-convict Max da Costa (Matt Damon) suffers a fatal dose of radiation, he does the only thing he can to be cured - he takes on a job from his former crime boss in exchange for a flight to the satellite community of Elysium. But when the job goes bad and Elysium agents hunt him down, the race for survival truly begins.
This sword was used by the savage Elysium operative Agent Kruger (Sharlto Copley) during his mission to eliminate Max and take control of the Elysium station for himself. This sword was used in the final fight on the gantry as the powered-up Kruger looks to finish off the dying Da Costa for good.

Made by the prop makers at Weta Workshops – known for their work on the Lord of the Rings, King Kong, District 9 and Avatar – the sword is made of hard rubber with dragon engravings running along the weapon’s side and an octagonal guard. The blade is finished in black and faux-silver metallic paint with the grip finished to replicate the look of a traditional bound katana grip. The blade has been intentionally damaged to look broken from its hard use in the battle with Max.

Distressed for use with some minor wear from the climactic action scene, the piece remains in very good condition.
