Max Da Costa's (Matt Damon) screen-matched, light-up, mechanical TST Chemrail rifle from Neill Blomkamp's Elysium. Paint and engraving details on the exterior of this rifle screen-match to when Max rescued Frey Santiago (Alice Braga) and her daughter Matilda (Emma Tremblay) from M. Kruger (Sharlto Copley) and his minions.
Designed and constructed by Weta Workshop, this futuristic fictional firearm features a dense rubber clamshell engraved "For Asgari Use Only" and "Chemrail TST" and dressed over a metal interior; a depressible trigger; a gray magazine engraved "LMR 8.75x52" (a reference to the size of the Fin Stabilised Discarding Rail Accelerator Sabot [FSDRAS] rounds Chemrails are designed to fire); and a green butt engraved "18kj" (for the muzzle energy, in kilojoules, with which Chemrails fire FSDRAS rounds).
The rifle is equipped with a CO2 gas-powered muzzle operated via a switch concealed on the bottom of the magazine. When the rifle is connected to an AC-powered battery pack, the muzzle pumps at high velocity by depressing the trigger. A light above the muzzle also flashes when a button concealed in front of the forestock is pressed simultaneously with the trigger. A battery pack and its AC-compatible charger are also included with the rifle.
Following production, this lot underwent sympathetic restoration to its electronic components. It is missing its scope as well as paneling along the top of the clamshell, which also exhibits adhesive residue, some grime and discoloration along the muzzle, and bending to the rubber elements from production and handling. Dimensions: 39" x 13" x 3" (99.25 cm x 33.25 cm x 7.75 cm)
