This one sheet is a rare find, as paper featuring this comedy duo rarely surfaces. With artwork reminiscent of that of the iconic 1920s illustrator John Held, Jr., whose New Yorker covers helped define the era. Prior to restoration, this poster had previous issues, including fold and edge wear with sporadic chipping and pinholes in the corners. There have been scattered touch-ups, work to the top two center point cross folds for chipping and separation and all the borders have been airbrushed. The poster now presents handsomely.
George K. Arthur and Karl Dane formed a popular comedy team in the late 1920s. Their films were just as successful as those of Paramount's Wallace Beery-Raymond Hatton comedy duo. The team was known for their hilarious and slapstick misadventures, which were a hit with the audience, until the advent of "talkies". Unfortunately, Dane's heavy Danish accent was exposed, leading to the end of his acting career at the end of the silent-film era. Despite this, the team produced 10 short films, six for RKO and four for Paramount, one of which was "Dumb-bells in Derbies."
